Imagine if living 100 years becomes pain-free, disease-free and full of a compelling purpose, getting up each morning and creating a positive impact for own self and for many people around. Wouldn’t it be thrilling to live a full 100 years and also create a mark of our own?

was giving a presentation in Udaipur to a group and when I asked the audience a question “who would like to live for 100 years?”, and hardly few hands went up, amongst the audience. Most of us relate living a long 100 years with hospital beds, many chronic ailments and boring retired life with no stellar purpose for oneself. So, living 100 years seems like not a very desired state to be in.

Imagine if living 100 years becomes pain-free, disease-free and full of a compelling purpose, getting up each morning and creating a positive impact for own self and for many people around. Wouldn’t it be thrilling to live a full 100 years and also create a mark of our own?

Let us discuss the possibilities and ways to achieve this amazing feat in one’s life. There is no magic formula or a magic pill to make this happen, living a long and healthy 100 years, and creating a positive impact worth 10 years in each year – pushing ahead beyond one’s mental limits is simply possible by a concept called “slight-edge” or in other words also known as “atomic habits”.

“Slight-edge” is always at work in our lives, all the time. Let’s understand this with an example, imagine a person who goes to the gym daily without fail. We can very well picture that how fit this person would look, feel and perform. This is the slight-edge working in a positive manner for this individual over time, taking him towards peak performance.

Now let’s imagine a person who eats just one mega burger daily for his lunch and does not work-out. Needless to say, that this person over time would be going downhill in terms of his health. It is not what we do once in a while that shapes up our lives, it is the small things, atomic habits, and the slight-edge that we carry out consistently determine the course of our lives.

Below is the list of few things that direct us towards the goal of living a healthy long 100 years and creating a powerful positive impact as well:

We are what we eat: if we promise ourselves that we are not going be the person who eats burger everyday (the one mentioned above) then we are already on the right track. Ensuring that we eat whole foods (as nature provides), go easy on sugar & sugar-loaded carbs, and add loads of desi ghee, veggies, fruits and may be incorporate the ritual of fasting for health purposes – we will be well on our way to living a healthy 100 years.

Own our morning: wake up early, work-out for 30-40 minutes (brisk walk, jog, HIIT or a sport), meditate (mindfulness) for 20-30 minutes and learn by reading books or doing an online course for another 30 minutes could position an individual towards excellence only and nothing less.

Have a Vision/ core purpose/ your why: an individual who is able to discover his or her own vision/ core purpose or their why have a solid reason to wake up every morning, push hard and make an impact on his/ her life and on the lives of others around.

Let me share an example to understand this better: my core purpose/ my why is “Happiness for All” – and I really mean ‘ALL’ – including myself and world at large. This “why” navigates me to take my daily decisions in personal and business life, helps form atomic habits that will take us towards wellness and generate abundance of progressive things in this process.

Do not compare with others: human beings have an entrenched habit of mimicking and comparing themselves with others around them. When this comparison happens in terms of material possessions then this may lead to a lot of dissatisfaction and discontent for the one comparing themselves with others.

A better way to compare is to compare with self – how did I do yesterday at something and am I any better today on that thing – this could be a game-changer. Yesterday, I did 20 push-ups and today I was able to do 22 push-ups – now this is progress and an ideal comparison to step towards a powerful life.

As a business owner and dynamic leader, I believe that business building goes beyond stellar revenues and expansion plans. Long after the power-point presentations have left our minds, our impact still resonates in the environment we helped create and foster and the lives we have changed, through our positive actions.

Steve Jobs once said – “let’s make a dent in the universe”. This line of his stays with me all the time and pushes me to live a healthy 100 years while I try my best to create a dominant influence worth 1000 years on this world. I trust that we can make this world a better place by living well and keep smiling (be happy).
